Nebraska sports betting

The legalization of sports betting in the United States is gaining momentum – currently, this process is active in several states at once. One of these was the state of Nebraska, which will be discussed in this article.

Nebraska is a state in the western part of the North Central US group. The state capital is the city of Lincoln, and the current population of the pants is 1,842,641 people. Nebraska received its status in 1867, becoming the 37th state in the United States.

Legalization of bets

The process of legalizing bets in the state has been going on for a long time, and finally, some time ago, Governor Pete Ricketts signed the Betting Law, which was adopted by state legislators.

According to this document, Nebraska allows betting on sporting events of both professional and college teams. However, restrictions still exist – for example, bettors cannot yet bet online – at the moment they can only bet at land-based betting shops.

According to NewsOfGambling, many companies have already seriously thought about building betting shops in the state. For example, gambling operators Fonner Park and Elite Casino Resorts are going to build a large gambling complex on Grand Island.

In addition, the Lincoln authorities are also considering the possibility of building a large-scale casino resort. According to preliminary data, Ho-Chunk WarHorse Gaming, together with the Nebraska Horsemen’s Benevolent & Protective Association, should be involved in the creation.

Where else have sports betting been legalized?

In addition to Nebraska, the legalization of sports betting has also occurred in the state of Arizona. State Governor Doug Ducey signed into law the betting bill passed by the legislature.

According to the law, players can bet on sports not only at land-based points but also online. The Arizona Department of Gaming regulates the process of making bets in the state. This department has the right to issue licenses – however, the number of licenses is limited – they can be issued no more than ten. In addition, there is also one restriction – betting licenses can only be obtained by owners or operators of sports teams, as well as owners or operators of facilities that host the annual PGA Tour golf tournament, promoters of NASCAR touring car races held in Arizona.

In addition, there are ten additional licenses available to Arizona Indian Tribes who entered into a state gambling agreement in 2021.

Betting operators may transfer the right to accept online sports betting under their license to third parties. However, in this case, such third-party companies will need to obtain a separate license from the Arizona gambling regulator.

Sports betting in the USA

The process of legalizing sports betting in the US has been going on for many years. It all started with the fact that in 2018 the US Supreme Court overturned the previously existing Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act (PASPA), which was passed in 1992.

This law, called the “Bradley Act”, determined that betting in the United States is permitted only within the state of Nevada. This law had a large number of opponents – all of them very long and stubbornly sought its repeal, but it became possible to repeal it only 25 years after it entered into force.

What has changed since the repeal of the law?

After the 1992 law was repealed, American betting companies had more rights and freedom. When the federal ban was officially lifted, each state was able to independently determine the legal status of sports betting in its territory. Immediately after the repeal of the law, 32 states began the process of legalizing bets. The situation in other states is still uncertain. Most often, problems arise due to local legislation that prohibits betting activities in a particular territory.

Even Native Americans began to fight for their place in the betting market – one of the “tribal” casinos in New Mexico announced the start of betting activities. According to state laws, any gambling and sports betting is prohibited on its territory, but this measure does not apply to Indian reservations.

Where can you bet on sports today?

In addition to Nebraska, which was mentioned above, as well as Nevada, sports betting has long been available in Delaware, Oregon, and Montana. Two other states – Mississippi and West Virginia – allowed betting activities on their territory long before the decision of the Supreme Court. The same applies to Pennsylvania, however, here businessmen are in no hurry to open their betting companies since the cost of a license is $10 million. In addition, each company must pay a tax of 36% (4 times more than in neighboring New Jersey).

The state of New Jersey was most excited about the repeal of the Bradley Act. It was the authorities of this state that were the most ardent opponents of the 1992 law.

Also, betting activities are now actively carried out in the state of Atlantic City – this is the second gaming center in the United States after Las Vegas. Today, the betting market is dynamically developing here, most of which is accounted for by online gambling. In 2021, the volume of bets made in the last month of the year amounted to more than 184 million dollars, of which 104 million were bets made on the Internet. Online sports betting and mobile sports betting are increasingly attracting players, as bets can be placed from anywhere in the world using any device. People now may do legal sports betting, play online casino games, bingo games, poker games, make bets on horse racing, daily fantasy sports, college sports such as college basketball, college football, as well as other sports offered by legal sportsbooks and native american casinos.

Interestingly, online sports betting today is legally available only in the state of New Jersey: even in Nevada, only land-based operators operate. Of course, online betting exists in other states, but it is illegal: many bettors use various programs to change the IP address and other tricks. We do not recommend that users use third-party programs to bypass blocking, as this can be dangerous and punishable.

In general, since the start of the process of legalizing bets in the United States, the total volume of bets has increased several times. Rapid growth is expected in the future, especially given the emergence of new betting companies on the market and the start of numerous major North American leagues.
